2026 Guide — Hammamet, Tunisia’s flagship beach resort on the east coast, brings together 45 km of fine-sand beaches, a still-inhabited 15th-century medina, and the country’s largest amusement park — all 60 km south of Tunis. Here’s what our concierge team recommends to TLL guests this year: activities, beaches, restaurants, and the local tips most guidebooks miss.

Why choose Hammamet for your stay?

Located 60 km south of Tunis and 45 minutes from Tunis-Carthage airport (or 1 hour from Enfidha airport), Hammamet pairs family-friendly beaches, lively nightlife, and day-trip-distance cultural sites. It has been the favorite of European families for thirty years, which translates into well-oiled tourist infrastructure and consistent service standards.

Hammamet at a glance

  • 45 km of fine-sand beaches between central Hammamet and Yasmine
  • 15th-century historic medina with intact ramparts
  • Amusement parks Carthage Land and Friguia within 30 minutes
  • Cape Bon day trips from the city
  • Mild climate April to October, warm sea June to September

The beaches of Hammamet

Central Hammamet beach

The historic beach at the foot of the medina. Golden sand, clear and shallow water, ideal for families. Below the ramparts you get an authentic Tunisian atmosphere with seafront cafés and restaurants.

Yasmine Hammamet beach

The modern resort area to the southwest. Full infrastructure: sunbeds (8-12 TND/day), pedalos, jet skis, sailing school. The marina hosts catamaran day trips (90 TND per adult with lunch, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).

South Hammamet (Bouficha)

Quieter, less crowded. For travelers looking for space, 20 minutes from the center. Ideal in September and October.

Neighborhoods to explore

Central Hammamet (historic medina)

Historic core with 15th-century ramparts, the artisan souk, and the seafront Sidi Bouhdid café — one of the oldest Moorish cafés in Tunisia. Must-sees:

  • The Kasbah: fortress with panoramic views over the bay
  • The souk: Nabeul ceramics, argan and neroli oils pressed locally
  • Sidi Bouhdid café: mint tea with your feet in the sand

Yasmine Hammamet

Modern resort with a marina, replica medina (built 2002), amusement parks, and hotel complexes. Family-friendly and good for shopping. Just don’t confuse it with the authentic historic medina.

North Hammamet (Mrezga)

Upscale residential district with beachfront villas. Quiet, green, popular for high-end holiday rentals.
